COMPOSITION AND APPLIED MUSIC

FOUNDATION COURSE

The pre-academic composition course has a duration ranging from 1 to 2 years, depending on the level of each student; it is accessed through an audition.
It stems from a careful fusion of traditional studies, such as traditional harmony, counterpoint, orchestration and contemporary professional issues, to provide each student with the tools and skills to realize his/her own music ideas with the right techniques.

Composition studies, traditional and modern harmony, counterpoint, orchestration, music applied to images, complete cycles of ear training studies to develop recognition skills of chords and melodies succession, Music Technology for professional use of notation softwares and sequencing with virtual orchestras.

Frequency Lessons of 50 minutes/weekly or fortnightly

Each study is aimed at applied music, music for films, commercials, short films, documentaries, dance, theater, multimedia applications. The student will be able to develop his/her compositional skills also with the help of real instruments ensembles and orchestras and with an in-depth study of the solutions that virtual instruments offer.

Skills are acquired in the following areas:

  • Study of traditional and contemporary compositional techniques for piano, voices and strings.
  • Study of the flowered counterpoint to 3 and 4 parts and use in music contexts for films and music applied to images
  • In-depth study of classical and contemporary harmony up to chords of 9th 11th 13th and altered ones.
  • Study of the piano technique and the instrument as a means to compose
  • Music Technology, sequencing software, notation software, virtual Instruments

Once the last level of the pre-academic course has been successfully completed the student automatically gains access to one of the superior level courses:

  • three-year 1st cycle academic diploma in Film Music Composition
  • three-year 1st cycle academic diploma in Applied music

Every year each student will face experiences of image sonorization and the original compositions will be performed by various ensembles, at first by string quartets then wind quintets and at the end of each year an orchestral ensemble of 30 live elements directed by the student him/herself in a theater in Rome in sync with the images.

INSIGHTS

The pre-academic course includes the choice between 4 different methods of attendance:

  • Ordinary Attendance:Weekly attendance, 6 to 10 hours of classes concentrated in 2-4 days every week. It allows a step-by-step guided learning, with constant verifications of one’s own progress. It requires an average study commitment of 6 hours per day. Some subjects are available both in presence and entirely online.
  • Long-distance attendance: 6 to 8 hours of classes concentrated on Saturdays, one week in presence and one week online, the long-distance pre-academic course represents the ideal choice for students from all over Italy or who do not reside in Rome or nearby. It is also anexcellent solution for working students. The long-distance mode with Saturday classes is scheduled for the pre-academic course only..
  • Teen Music Academy Attendance: Optimized for high school students, with a customized study path that engages 1 or 2 afternoons a week, with the aim of accessing academic courses upon reaching the high school diploma. In cases of particular ability and talent, it is possible to be admitted to the academic courses even before the high school diploma achievement. Some subjects are available both in presence and entirely online.
  • Distance Learning: Carried out entirely online, for students from all over the world.
