Second cycle Academic Diploma

Study path focused on developing the student’s own compositional matrix and artistic identity as an electroacoustic musician also through a working path of live electronics concerts, soundtracking of installations, images and multimedia projects.

It is a limited students number course, aimed at up to 20 students, coming from academic courses or selected by audition.

The two-year second cycle academic courses are personalized on the basis of the artistic inclinations of the trainees, aimed at creating real work opportunities, with installations and performances and live concerts at festivals and theaters.

  • Electroacoustic composition: Theory and Practice of Electronic Music in Max Object Graphics Environments, Kyma, Pure Data, Spectral Modeling, Time Shifts and Delay Lines, Fourier Analysis and Resynthesis, Wrapper MC., Spectral Processing Lab, The Use of Jitter for creation • Transformation of the spectrum, Spectral Blur, Kyma Digital Sound Workstation, Generation Sources, Modifiers, and Recombinators.
  • Improvisation and interactive composition: Practice in music labs aimed at the development of the improvisation and composition in real time, using multiple strategies, from interactive assisted composition, to ecosystem procedures and immersive listening
  • Live Electronics: evelopment of processing applications for real time dedicated to the interaction with the voice or one or more acoustic instruments, Implementation, modifications, variations and practice with Max8 and Kyma, software engineering, implementation and porting with Max and Pure Data, Ecosystem composition and machine learning.
  • Programming languages: Programming in non-graphic object development environments such as SuperCollider, Processing, Arduino, JavaScript.
  • Interactive systems and artistic installations: From the prepared instrument to the augmented instrument, The Devices of Ciat-Lonbarde, Sidrax, Tetrax, Cocoquantus, Arius Blaze and the Illuminist Garden, Ideation and design of sound objects, Interaction and digital augmentation, Invention violin making and automatic orchestras, Kinetic sculptures and sound art, multimedia performance.

At the end of the 2nd Cycle academic two-year period, the student can complete his/her specialization studies with a specialization Master program (acknowledged by the Ministry of Education).

  • Public competitions for music teaching (upon reaching the 24 university or academic credits in anthropo-psycho-pedagogical disciplines and in teaching methodologies and technologies)

INSIGHTS

Since 2012 Saint Louis has participated in the Erasmus + program, which offers the possibility to every student of Academic level to live periods of mobility in other European and Extra-European Higher Education Institutes for study or internship projects.

Each student can therefore benefit of a maximum of 12 months of study or internship abroad for each study cycle (12 months max in the three-year first cycle, 12 months max in the two-year second cycle of academic studies), choosing one’s destination among a wide and excellent offer of foreign partners that Saint Louis has established and consolidated over time.

REQUIREMENTS: 1st Cycle three-year academic diploma already achieved or to be achieved by the February session (registration with reservation)

  1. Consult the Admission Requirements and Study Plan section: Check that your preparation is in line with the skills required for the individual tests by accessing the “Admission requirements and study plan” section.
  2. Fill in the application webform: You can apply to take part in the entrance exam to the 1st and 2nd cycle academic courses from 3rd February to 30th April. International students may apply as of January 1st every year until 30th April. Applications submitted subsequently may be considered only on the basis of the places remaining available.
  3. Take the admission tests on site:Admission tests are held on at least two consecutive days. International candidates can sit the tests online.

Mandatory attendance to the minimum extent of the 80% of the lessons.

  • FULL-TIME ATTENDANCE: Classes are mostly held with fortnightly cadence, organized in alternate weeks, with the exception of the instrument / singing lesson which can be organized at the student’s choice on a weekly or fortnightly basis. About 300 hours of classes per year.
  • PART-TIME ATTENDANCE: Students who, for work or distance reasons, are unable to attend all the lessons provided for in the study plan can personalize their own study plan choosing how many subjects to attend from year to year. Part-time attendance implies a probable extension of the course of study beyond 3 years.
