Alessandro Gwis began studying classical piano at the age of 8; in 1979 he performed live for the first time at the “Estate Romana” festival.

At age 16, he was introduced to jazz and improvised music; at the same time he began to delve into the use of synthesizer and electronic keyboards.

Since 1988, he has been active professionally in both pop and jazz music areas.

He has been a member of the group “Aires Tango” since its founding; in 2006 he released his first solo work, entitled “Alessandro Gwis,” in a trio with Luca Pirozzi and Armando Sciommeri.

Collaborations : Aires Tango, with Javier Girotto, Marco Siniscalco and Michele Rabbia (94 to present), Gege’ Telesforo (94 to 2004), Paolo Fresu, Antonello Salis, Enrico Rava, Gianni Coscia, Palermo jazz orchestra “Triangle music”, Peppe Servillo, Ben Sidran, Roberto Ottaviano, Paolo Damiani, Stefano di Battista, Giovanni Maier, Lutte Berg, Contemporary music ensemble “Open trios” by Giovanni Bietti, Roberto Cecchetto, Achille Succi, Kurt Rosenwinkle, Gianni Gebbia, Carolina Brandes, Rosario Giuliani, Danilo Rea, Maurizio Giammarco, Cinzia Spata, Flavio Boltro, Roberto Gatto, Sandro Satta, Stefano d’Anna, Horacio Hernandez, Marcello Murru, Stefano Benni, Davide Riondino and many others.

He has also composed and performed music for film, television and dance; he has collaborated with several pop music singers, particularly Gianni Morandi (from 92 to the present on numerous tours in Italy and abroad), Massimo Ranieri, Sergio Endrigo, Syria, Lucio Dalla and many others. In May 2000 he was a finalist in the European audition for the French national jazz orchestra.
