“LA LEGGENDA DEL PIANISTA DI JAZZ”
Tribute to Amedeo Tommasi

B.I.M. Orchestrated and directed by Stefano Mastruzzi, for the piano Alessandro Lanzoni, Sade Mangiaracina, Vittorio Solimene.

Jamming 2021, evening dedicated to M° Amedeo Tommasi, jazz pianist who played with Chet Baker, composer of soundtracks for the films of Pupi Avati, died on April 13, 2021, at the age of 85. Refined pianist and composer, author of many tracks of the soundtrack of “The legend of the pianist on the ocean”, composed together with Ennio Morricone, he was a milestone of Saint Louis that he attended from the early years, when it was a jazz club, then became a Master loved and appreciated by the many students who over the course of generations have had the luck to play with him.

The B.I.M. Orchestra will perform the tracks of “Amedeo Tommasi – Orchestratura e direzione Stefano Mastruzzi” (Jazz Collection, 2021), a collection of tracks composed by M. Amedeo tommasi, orchestrated and directed by Mr. Stefano Maestruzzi, director of Saint Louis, the historic music school of Rome – one of the first jazz clubs of the Capital in the ’70s and now prestigious Institute AFAM – which tells of how the project was born, conceived in 2018 and completed just a few days before the disappearance of M.

“The precious friendship and close collaboration with Amedeo spans about 20 years, spreading between the mutual assiduous attendance at Saint Louis, our timeless escapes from reality in the tractories of the Rione Monti, the fugitive listening to music just composed by him or me.
Just in one of these meetings, in 2012, on a crazy keyboard, he made me listen to “Camilla”, a dream composition written for the birth of my first daughter, a nanny who tells of unpredictable future, inexhaustible potential, of a new life free and without borders; This is a privilege that I tried to partly compensate for with this extraordinary production.

A discographic adventure that takes life in 2018, when I conceived for him a whole original production iter, without constraints, without partitions that restricted his freedom of expression, without time or better, with his instinctive inner time to do as a metronome, his pulsating arrhythmias and his spontaneous emotions.

Amedeo has recorded in the studios of Saint Louis twenty-two tracks in a single piano, without reading a single note, an impetuous flow of metric and harmonic modulations, of bold re-harmonizations, sometimes also of uncertainties, so inspired to turn into certainties
.
I spent months grabbing and interiorizing his music in order to give birth to an orchestration that exalted its most subtle nuances, a dialogue counterpoint, sometimes in contrast, more often an ideal evolution of musical thoughts just mentioned.

To direct the orchestra in this unusual recording meant to pursue and follow its stolen seductors, its mysterious pauses, the sudden accelerating ones”.

At the piano and at the opening of the concert, young musicians who have had the fortune to study with Amedeo Tommasi and who will pay tribute to their Master: Silvia Olivier, Alessandro Lanzoni, Vittorio Solimene, Sade Mangiaracina.
